
The HWY 2 over the CN Railway Bridge Rehabilitation project (BF76060E) involved a comprehensive rehabilitation of the existing bridge structure, including the removal and replacement of various components, such as the high-density concrete overlay, curbs, bridge rails, and deck joints. This complex project required meticulous planning, coordination, and execution to ensure the structural integrity and safety of the bridge.

Project Details:
- Project: BF76060E – HWY 2 over the CN Railway Bridge Rehabilitation, in Peace River, Alberta
- Client: Eiffage Canada Inc.

- Description: Remove and dispose of high-density concrete overlay on deck, remove existing curbs and bridge rails, remove existing deck joints and existing asphalt on approach slabs. Replace shear blocks between girders at both abutments, repairs to girders and concrete diaphragms. Jacking of bridge superstructure and resetting existing bearings/apply zinc coating. Construct new deck overhangs and curbs, supply and install new strip seal deck joints and seals. Supply and install new bridge rails and pedestrian safety railings, steel guardrails, deck waterproofing and asphalt paving on bridge deck and roadway approaches. Construct new concrete drain troughs, concrete slope protection repairs.
Our Role:
ERK Construction Inc. was the main subcontractor on this project, responsible for performing work as required by the client. Our scope of work included:
- Supplying carpenters, concrete finishers, ironworkers, and skilled laborers
- Concrete demolition and removals
- Deck joint, bridge rail, and utility removals
- Placing, finishing, and wet cure of concrete in all elements
- Formwork installation, removal, and performing concrete dry finishing for all elements
- Installation of embedded anchors in curbs
- Concrete repairs to existing bridge deck, surface preparations for waterproofing
- Application of finishes and sealers to curbs, deck overhang undersides, and abutments
- Site clean up, organizing materials, and other duties as required by the client
